Tahoe

The Tahoe basin holds a vast number of high quality boulders, up with some of the best in CA - often just minutes from a road and with a stunning view to boot. It's Achilles heel is that these erratics and moraines are relatively spread out, so don't expect to find a Camp 4 or Buttermilks analogue here. But this isnt a bad thing - just factor in a little hiking and exploring into your day and have fun!

History

Pie shop, echo view, lover's leap and split rock have all been bouldered since the 70's, mostly on technical lines or in concentrated areas allowing varied, moderate circuits. In the later 1990s steeper and more compact rock was sought after, some of which was showcased in the 1999 Sharma film Rampage (feat. Saddles, White Lines, Big Chief). There has been an explosion of development recently (>2005) in the Kirkwood area.
